Inspired to be our best.....

Pupil Voice

From the Early Years Unit to Year 6, children are encouraged to become confident, responsible members of our school and community.  School Councillors and Eco Warriors are elected positions (elected by their peers).  Teachers choose Learning Champions who are examples of pupils who are excellent learners - using a growth mindset.  We give pupils the opportunity to shape the class curriculum as well as sharing their learning with their families and the school community.

School Council: at the beginning of each school year, 2 children from each class are voted onto the Council by their classmates. The Council and the Headteacher meet once a term to discuss issues raised by classmates and to have a say on decisions made in school. They also help to carry out pupil surveys.

School Houses

St Joseph's has four school houses: St Mary Magdalene., St Dominic, St Teresa of Lisieux and St Francis

House captains are voted by the children in each house in the Autumn term and take a lead in school events.

Eco Warriors:  Two members of each class are voted Eco Warriors and work to raise awareness of the challenges facing our world.  This work is supported by Pope Francis through his letter - the Laudato Si (click on link to watch the animation for children by CAFOD).

Sports Captains: These are voted by the houses each Autumn and they help promoting sporting events and a healthy lifestyle.

Anti-Bullying Ambassadors:  These are 4 children from Year 5 and 6 who are trained by the Local Authority to challenge bullying in any form and act as anti-bullying champions.  They work with Miss White, our Home School Link Worker.

Learning Champions:  Two pupils from each class who show excellent learning strategies are chosen by the class teacher to work with Ms Tweedie as Learning Champions.  Activities include updating the Learning Charter, conducting surveys around learning in their classrooms, speaking with the Governors and promoting using a growth mindset in our school.
